M.C. began offering powder coating to it's customers in 1999. A powder coat finish is generally very durable and more consistent than a liquid sprayed finish, with less of a difference in quality between the horizontal and vertical surfaces of a part, and no running or pooling of the coating compound.
The powder coating process begins by hanging the parts to be finished on a cart. Then the parts are washed with an iron phosphate pretreatment to clean, degrease and lightly etch the surface prior to the coating process. Some parts are sandblasted with glass bead as part of the preparations. This is a very effective way to ensure a nice, even finish. After being cleaned and rinsed the parts are then moved into a dry off oven, to avoid flash rust. Then the powder is applied with a spray gun which electrostatically bonds the powder to the parts. The parts are then moved to a 450 degree oven where they go through a curing process. The result is an appealing, durable, even finish.
